Basic Steps for Sponsoring

Are you having a hard time building your team? Looking for some ideas of things that might help you build? I have found that when we are stuck it is best to go back to the basics of the task we are trying to complete. I am going to share with you some basic steps that really helped me build my team. I hope that you find these tips just as helpful as I have.

  • Remember that your job is to share. Share the business, share the products, share your love and enthusiasm. Lead with the business- default on the product. You never know who the business might be right for- never discount anyone you meet. Try not to make excuses for why they would not want to join you in the business. You will be surprised who is just waiting for you to ask them. Start sharing with everyone. It is our job to share the love.

  • Identify your "WHY". It is vital to the success of your business to know why you joined your company and started your business to begin with. Even write your own mission statement. Type it up fancy- post it all over your house, change your phone screensaver, your computer, etc. Constantly remind yourself "WHY" you started your amazing business. It can be things like you wanted more time with your family, you wanted to pay off your car, you wanted to pay off debt, you wanted to pay off your house early, you want to be able to give back to those that are less fortunate than you, you want to be a force for good... Whatever your reason is- live it- love it- post it - share it. You have to know why you loved this business to begin to share it with people you meet.

  • Identify why you are in love with your business now. It can be the incentive trips you earn, the paychecks you get, your customers, the events you get to attend, the amazing relationships you have build, the training you have received, etc. Write down why you love your business. Post it all over- like I shared above. It is always good to remind ourselves what started it and what we love about it.

  • Work your business- Fill that calendar- schedule one on one appointments with customers. When your team and customers see you working your business they want to work their business also. It inspires people to see how passionate you are. The most people you are meeting the more chances you are going to have to share the business and your products.

  • When you are at events or parties make sure you are sharing how much fun you are having. Share with your hostess how much money should would have made had she been the consultant. Show the hostess and the guests that you are having fun and love what you do. You can share your "WHY" you started your business and "why" you love your business with the crowd. Show them how easy it is to do what you do. You can even challenge the guests and your hostess to write down what this business would change for them if they joined your team. Make sure to ask each guest as they check out if they are or they know someone who might be interested in this business opportunity. Do you have a referral program? Share it with the customer after you ask- even if they are not interested and do not know anyone who is interested at that point in time.

  • Schedule one on one appointments with those that are interested in the business. You can invite them to have a phone call with you, coffee, lunch, whatever works for you and them. It gives you a chance to answer any questions they may have. Plus it gives you time to get to know them. You can also ask them questions. Keep them gracious. Ask things like Are you looking for a way to supplement your income? Are you looking for a PT business that can work around your schedule now? Find out what they are expecting from this business... Are they looking to replace an income, get more free time for family, etc. Try to set up at least one appointment a week with anyone who is interested in the business.

  • After they have had a few days to go over what you discussed at your meeting call, email or text them to see what they decided to do. If they have any other questions that they thought of since your meeting. Ask if they might need any more information to aid them in making a confident decision. Ask them what is keeping them from starting today, tomorrow, this week or this month. Find a solution to help them.

I hope that these help you start to build your team. If you have any questions please feel free to email me. I love getting to help others.

If you are an O2 designer- please go to your mentor with questions.

Marketing Tips for your Direct Sales Business

Marketing and Social Media are powerful tools for your business. In order for them to benefit you though it has to be done right. Otherwise it ends up not doing what you are hoping. Usually when that happens you will want to give up. Please don't give up yet- make a few simple tweaks to what you are saying and how you are saying it.

Marketing/Social Media Tips
  • Make sure a picture of your gorgeous smiling face is your profile picture- Not your kids, company logo, animals, quotes, etc. You want people to know who you are when they see you out running around. You want them to connect to you- not your brand. This is truly one of the most important things for Social Media.
  • No Negativity- I know we are all guilty of doing this. Some times we just want to complain. Doing this all of the time will make people not want to deal with you. I know that not everything in life is positive, but some things are just meant to stay off of Social Media.
  • When marketing your product never use terms like  "Who wants one?", "Don't you want this?" You want to use something creative, catchy and fun. You want your customers to have fun reading your message.
  • If you have something that is {exclusive} Or {limited edition} share that with the image you are posting. You want your audience to know the urgency to get that item before it is gone.
  • Trying to book more parties? Use terms like "Escape the chaos of life- have a relaxing evening with your girlfriends." "Get away from the craziness of life for a fun evening with your closest girlfriends." or "Who is ready for a relaxing, fun evening with their girlfriends?"
  • Be Consistent! Post at least 2 times day. It takes time to build your brand.
  • Share your fun personality. It is important that your fans are connecting with you.

I hope that this post helps you have success with social media and marketing. Remember it takes time to build a business. You can do it. I know it can seem overwhelming at times. Let social media work for you. Don't think you need to invest money in advertising your business to make social media work for you. That is untrue. You can do it 100% organic.

Tips for a successful Vendor Event

8/6/2014

Those in Direct Sales know that vendor events are going to help you grow your business incredibly. You will get party referrals, new team members, also some orders. I always tell my team that vendor events are not meant to make sales, they are meant to create leads which will help them build their business over the next 6 months to a year. When you are starting your new business never turn an event away. You never know what sort of leads you will gain from doing that event. I did events outside in 10 degrees weather, when it was so windy I thought everything was going to blow away, I did every event I could find or someone told me about.  Some examples of different events you can find: flea markets, farmers markets, festivals, holiday shopping, community street festivals, county fairs, state fairs, school and church bazaars, charitable events and direct sales networking group events.

How to find events.

  • Check Craigslist Events, use searches with the examples above. Do one keyword at a time
  • Facebook, search for the keywords above + put in the cities you are willing to travel to
  • Ask on local sales sites if anyone knows of events coming up. Offer a referral bonus to the person who referred you if you decide to take the event.
  • Newspaper- You might find some hidden gems in there
  • Search the internet with the keywords above + the cities you are willing to travel to
  • Ask your friends, family and customers. Offer a referral bonus to the person who referred you if you decide to take the event.

After you found a vendor event:

Congratulations on finding an event! Vendor events are truly so much fun! I enjoy meeting new people. Keep in mind that your time is valuable.  Don't waste your time doing events that have an insanely high fee to have a booth, have a LOT of the same products, not advertised well or have low attendance in the past. Remember it is okay to interview the event organizer/coordinator and say No if you feel the event is not for you.

Questions you should ask before saying "Yes" to the event:

  • Is this the first year for your event?  If not, how many attendees did you have last year?
  • What kind of advertising/marketing are you doing for the event?
  • Is there a FaceBook event set up for your event? I would love to share my website on there. Also, I would love to share the event with my friends, family and customers.
  • Do you provide tables? If yes, what is the cost? What is the table size?
  • Is there a fee? Most events do have a fee. Usually $10 and up. Some ask for a percent of sales, and  a raffle donation. I never do events that want a booth fee, percent of sales and a donation. It ends up costing you more than you will make. You want to make your fees back when you do an event. I I prefer a percent of sales or a low fee under $40. Why I prefer to pay a percent of my sales then it only costs if I make money. Remember everything is negotiable. It does not hurt to ask if you can donate a percent of your sales instead of the upfront cost. The worst they can say is No.
  • Are you allowing duplicate vendors? (Vendors that same the same thing as you or even the same company as you) If yes ask, How can I be exclusive?
  • If the event is for a school, dance studio, church, animal shelter, etc ask them how many active members they have?
  • Do you offer wireless internet? Electricity?
  • When is set up time? Time of the event? Break down time?

You said "YES". Now what?

Plan your Booth Décor:
Keep it simple. I cannot stress that enough. You want the focus to be your product, not an elaborate display.  Have your display match your company branding. That way people walking by close and from afar know it is your company before they ever approach your booth. You can read about the Origami Owl® Branding here. Have your product out for your customers to play with. When someone can touch a product they build a personal connection to it. I never suggest putting your product in cases that do now allow the customers to touch it. Usually that discourages them from wanting the product.  Create height on your table. You can use clear acrylic risers, boxes from your company that are clean and have fun sayings, you can take boxes wrap them in wrapping paper that matches your company colors.

Engage those walking by.
Offer a drawing or raffle.   Be excited, greet those that walk by. Share your passion for your product. You only get one first impression. Leave them with an amazing one so they come back asking for you. Don't spend the whole day sitting. Stand in your booth, greet guests. Show them you want to talk to them, answer their questions.

Signage
I think this is truly a vital piece of a successful booth. Don’t rely on your brochures, catalogs or handouts. Customers will not read them until they are home, if they even make it home with the customer. You want them to ask you questions while they are at your booth. You want to engage and build report.  Sometimes your best points can be phrased in the form of a question.  View the customer as one who needs to be educated because she has never seen the product before.  Most customers don’t know what they want or need.  They need to be taught the difference in each company. I love big banners or posters in my booth. It attracts people in when they see  bright sign with a catchy saying on it.

Marketing Material:
I cannot stress this enough.... KEEP it simple.
Marketing Material Must haves:
  • Business cards
  • Catalogs (TOMS)
  • Rack Card/ Post Card

I always have Rack Cards in my hand. I am always talking to people as they walk by and handing them a rack card.

Never leave your booth unattended
. That is the fastest way to lose customers. It also unprofessional. Bring friends, family, or team members to help you run your event. That way when you take a lunch break your booth is covered.
