Holding meetings during COVID

10/1/2020

Like many businesses monthly meetings are vital to a business, even during COVID. Meetings not only help bring together colleagues, they offer vital trainings. Holding virtual meetings has been a challenge during these times. Staff are getting fatigued from spending hours on video conference meetings. A lot of staff mention not feeling the connection to co-workers with not being able to see them in person.
I know I cannot be alone in saying that after a day spent on video meetings, I am exhausted. My eyes hurt; I am sore from being stuck at my desk all day to attend these meetings.

I wanted to share some things I have found helpful to keep me engaged during these meetings.
Avoid multitasking. It is important to keep your camera on. Not only does this help your co-workers remember who you are, but it helps you from multitasking since they will be able to see what you are doing. When you are multitasking, it is proven that you will not understand what is being said. This will help you stay focused on what your co-workers are saying.

Make sure to take breaks. I know that sounds too easy. It is incredible how easy it is to forget to take a 10- or 15-minute break. There are so many times I forget to walk away from my desk. This is a great time to get something to eat, get some water to drink. I love using this time to stretch, walk around a bit.
Change how you attend meetings. Sometimes I prefer to call in on my cell phone. It gives me the freedom to be able to walk around, sit outside, or stretch during the meetings. Granted I miss seeing everyone’s face when I call in to the meetings instead. Being able to walk around while on the call sure does help my eyes hurt less, my focus seems to improve.

I have felt the distance of being away from co-workers a lot. Most of us have not seen co-workers since March 2020. This starts to put a strain on the relationships. Some have said it makes it hard to work in a group or team when you are not able to sit down and collaborate in person. Make time to connect with those you are close with at least weekly. Email, phone call, or a quick video call to catch up.

I hope you found these tips helpful!

Marketing your Business

Anyone who has started a business knows that promoting/ marketing your new business is vital to your success. Without a good marketing plan your business will be slow to grow. I wanted to share with you some ideas for starting to market your new business.

Tips to promote/market your business:

  • Always carry business cards and catalogs with you. These truly are a key component to a marketing plan.
  • Make mini marketing giveaway bags. I suggest using cute. I love using Chevron Pattern Treat Bags. Something like this: Pattern Bags. In these bags I include the following:
        *Business Card
        *Mini Opportunity flyer
        *Mini Hostess Rewards sheet/ Hostess Exclusive sheet
        *Candy
        *Customer Special for the month.

    Really you can include anything you want in these bags. Give them to everyone you meet. People waiting in line at the store, bank tellers, cashiers, package delivery drivers, parents at sports practice or games, when you stay at hotels, go to restaurants, get coffee, anywhere you can leave a tip or gift behind.

  • Print out marketing approved quality flyers with your contact information on them.
    Include the following:
        *Your website address
        *E-mail address
        * Phone Number
        * Customer Specials for the month

    After you have some printed go around your community putting them up on community boards, at     the Chamber of Commerce, apartment complex, schools, grocery stores, post office, radio stations, Real Estate Offices, Construction companies, local bridal stores, tuxedo rental shops, Daycares, churches, College campuses {what college student is not looking for extra income}, Welcome centers, etc.

  • Contact churches, schools, Chamber of Commerce, most hold festivals during the different seasons. Ask if they are looking for vendors for your business. If you do an event like this you will want to make sure you have displays set up, signage about your business, product for customers to see, business cards, flyers, ways to collect customer information. Make it look professional.
  • Contact your local hospital(s), ask for the department that handles the mommy gift bags they give once a baby is born. The almost all hospitals give New Mommy Diaper Bags filled with products, samples, coupons and more. It is a great way to advertise your business.
    Include in a cute bag:
        * Business Card
        * Sample of your product (if you have a product that can be sampled)
        * Flyer about your company
        * Catalog
        * Hosting information

  • Contact medical offices to inquire about leaving information with them. This is truly a great way for you to target parents about the business opportunity or even hosting a party.
  • Donate products to radio stations, schools, businesses that are running big giveaways, fundraisers and more. This is a great way for you to get your name out there. Plus donations are considered a tax write off.
  • Contact local gyms, coffee shops, boutiques, hair salons, banks etc. It really can be any where that get a lot of foot traffic about setting up a table with your products on display. Make sure to bring business cards, catalogs, flyers and more marketing stuff you can hand out easily.
  • Ask restaurants, diners, deli's and coffee shops how you can advertise on their paper place-mats or beverage coasters! You would be surprised how many customers actually read those ads.
  • I love being able to take my business on the road during the months when weather is nice. Contact parks, Chamber of Commerce & community centers to see what their schedule of events are. Inquire if they allow vendors from your business at the event to set up a booth. This is a great way to network and market your business to those that are not in your community.
  • No events on your books? Plan your own. What about hosting a block party? You can hold it at  your home, park or community center! Families are always looking for something to do
    during the summer.
  • Start looking for Holiday events during the summer. Most are already posted. It is a great time to secure those events.
  • Have you branded your vehicle yet? If not do it today. It is a valuable advertising method. You can get a vinyl decal, door magnets, or stickers made for pretty cheap.
  • Find your local Mom groups, MOPS, or similar groups.

I hope these help you build your marketing plan. I love building a business from the ground floor. It truly is so rewarding. If you have any questions I would love to chat via Email.

Hello and Welcome to my blog!

I am Adriana Newton. Currently, living in Northern California. However, my heart feels at home in Texas. There is something about the south that calms my soul. From the sweet people, warm weather, humidity. Although, I am not a sweet tea drinker. I usually feel a bit weird asking for “unsweet tea.” I am a proud single momma of three children. I work full-time at a job I love, work my Origami Owl Business part-time, enrolled in College, plus I love CrossFit. You can find me at the gym 6-7 days a week. I am a lover of life, all things tattoo, nature and music drive my soul. Country music is my go-to. Lately, I had added in helping my children do distance learning. The struggle is real with that. Especially with all three of my children in school.

Now that you know a little about me, lets chat about what to expect when you come to my blog. Life tips, business talk, growing as a leader, Origami Owl, recipes, and so much more! It is my goal to keep you on your toes! Keeping your surprised every time you visit my blog. Plus giving you a glimpse into who I am more. You will learn that I keep a lot of my life private. I have truly learned the value of having parts of my life reserved for those that are closest to me.
Oh hey, that is a current picture of me. I wanted to change up my hair. I am honestly surprised how many compliments I get on my hair color. I thought people would be more resistant to the color. Instead I get that it makes my eyes stand out even more.

I look forward to getting to know you, my readers. Building those relationships with y'all is vital to me. Do you use social media? I would love to know which ones you utilize. I have found myself using social media less and less. Anyone else feeling that way. I hope you find my blog as rewarding for you as it is for me to write it. I love getting a chance to share what is going on in my world.

Until Next Time!
Adriana
